World War II Firghter Plane near Waukegan Illinois

It crashed during an aircraft training December 8, 1944. Now, 68 years later, the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation is sponsoring a hope-filled recovery of the World War II-era “Wildcat” Fighter plane from the bottom of Lake Michigan.

The Foundation is hopeful that the plane that went down in over 200 feet of water due to engine failure, will be recovered and put on display in the Chicago area.
